ABOUT

Shakespear Open Sanctuary

This sanctuary was established in 2010 by the construction of a pest-proof fence across the Whangaparaoa peninsula. An extensive and ongoing system of trapping and monitoring keeps the Sanctuary free of predators while allowing open access to visitors (but pets are not allowed inside the fence).

Shakespear Open Sanctuary Society

The Shakespear Open Sanctuary Society Incorporated (“SOSSI”) is an incorporated society and registered charity established in 2004 for the purpose of assisting the Regional Council (now Auckland Council) with the establishment and development of the sanctuary.

Shakespear Regional Park

At the tip of the Whangaparaoa Peninsula, Shakespear Regional Park has sheltered bays, wetlands, regenerating native forest, cliffs, historic places and a lookout with views second to none. It offers nice walks and beaches and is an easy 50 minutes drive from the Harbour Bridge.
