NZ Bird Calls CD and book

About the book:

New Zealand is known for its birds and the melodic quality of their song. But how many of us can actually tell the difference between the song or call of one bird from another, without catching a glimpse of the bird first?

Here, in one book and CD package is a selection of 60 of the most popular, important or interesting birds in New Zealand.

Each entry is illustrated with photographs from the renowned collection of the late Geoff Moon, making identification easy. The CD, contained in a plastic envelope on the book’s inside back cover, contains 60 tracks, one per bird, and each track includes up to three different calls, such as alarm, territory and courtship songs.

About the authors:

This is Lynnette Moon’s third book on the subject of birds, her late husband, Geoff Moon, was an outstanding bird photographer with many books to his name.  Notable wildlife sound recordist John Kendrick has been capturing New Zealand birds on film and tape for half a century and is a member of SOSSI. His daughter Karen Baird, who prepared his calls for this collection, has worked for both the Department of Conservation and now the Royal Forest and Bird Protection Society, and she also runs private wildlife tours.

Dreamers of the Day: A history of Auckland's regional parks - $50 (+postage)

(If you live locally please contact us, we may be able to arrange collection)

Dreamers of the Day book

In 2009, the Auckland Council commissioned author Graeme Murdoch to write a history of its regional parks service.

The book has been produced as a legacy project, intended to honour and celebrate the past. It is also intended to provide a platform of memories to guide future stewards of the regional parks, which are the real legacy for future generations.

It describes the origins and development of the parks in some detail. For this reason it will be of particular interest to those who have been directly involved in the story. However, the book will also be of interest to a wider audience. Through both the text and an array of wonderful images, it describes the natural and historic values of Auckland's regional parks, and the recreatrional opportunities that they offer.
